New 2013 KTM X-BOW GT Puts on a Pair of Shades but Doesn't Look Cool

It's been a long time since we last heard from KTM about its X-Bow, but at next week's Geneva Motor Show, the Austrian company will release a new version of its back-to-basics sports car named the GT that gains an odd looking windshield wrap, which for some strange reason, reminds us of the shades used on Jalopnik's older logo…

KTM won't say anything else about the X-Bow GT until the presentation at the Swiss show, though, when contacted by the French crew at Motorsport-Magazine, a company spokesman said the new model is based on the more hardcore "R" version with the Audi-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged engine detuned to deliver 281hp (285PS), down from 296hp (300PS).

Ferrari Teases F150 with Lousy Shot, Confirms Geneva Motor Show Debut


When it comes to Ferrari and new cars, it's all about its select clientele and not the press or fans of the brand. The Maranello-based carmaker has already shown the new F150-codenamed successor to the Enzo to potential owners, but for the rest of the world, all we get is this crude shot that looks like a photo taken with a poor camera phone from the past decade.

Along with this single image of the Prancing Horse logo, Ferrari also confirmed what we already knew from other sources, that the limited edition special series will receive its public premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday, March 5.

What we learned about Maranello's hypercar after details from a private viewing were leaked online is that it will feature hybrid powerplant pairing a V12 engine red-lining at 9,200 rpm to an electric motor for a combined system output of 950-horses, and that it will tip the scales at 1,270kg (2,800 pounds), with pre-tax prices starting from around €1 million (US$1.31 million at today's currency rates).

Rolls Royce Recalls Phantom Because Fuel Filler May be Missing a Safety Component


The Rolls-Royce Phantom may cost upwards of $400,000, but it's not immune from recalls, which in this case, is somewhat embarrassing for the British carmaker as it discovered that one of its suppliers forgot to add a safety component.

In particular, Rolls-Royce told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that certain 2013MY Phantom vehicles manufactured from November 2, 2012, through January 18, 2013, might not have anti-misfueling devices mounted on their fuel-filler necks. According to the company, the devices prevent misfueling and discharge static electricity.

"Without the anti-misfueling device, there is an increased risk of fire from static electricity," Rolls-Royce told the NHTSA, adding that it has not received any report nor is it aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The recall affects 27 cars sold in the United States. Rolls Royce said its dealers inspect the gas tank and replace any affected fuel filler necks, free of charge.

BMW's latest Japan market-only special is the 116i "Fashionista" that will be offered exclusively in a five-door body style priced at ¥3,460,000 (US$37,500 or €28,500), with production capped at 370 units.

The car can be had in a choice of three exterior colors named Crimson Red, White III Arupin and Deep Sea Blue metallic, all of which feature 17 inches alloy wheels shod in 205 / 50R17 tires, Chrome kidney grille and exhaust pipe, and a black finish for the window surrounds.

Inside, there's Dakota Oyster leather for the seats, sections of the doors and the handbrake, a gloss off-white finish for the trims on the dashboard, lower center console and door arms, and added standard features such as a Rear-view camera with Park Distance Control and front seat heating.

Power comes from BMW's standard 1.6-liter turbocharged four with 136PS (134bhp) linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission turning the rear wheels.

Brabus T65 RS tuning unleashes the latent power reserves of the six-liter V12 engine. To this end, the Brabus engine professionals have developed a Brabus high-tech Biturbo system with custom high-performance manifolds that feature integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers. The tuning also includes four water-to-air intercoolers, housed in space provided by the Brabus carbon-fiber hood scoop. Another custom development for the SL65 power upgrade is the special Brabus stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. It features free-flow metal catalysts and ceramic-coated tailpipes with distinctive Brabus design. An integrated butterfly valve in the exhaust provides an active sound management on the steering wheel: at the push of a button the driver can chose between a discrete "coming home" and a markedly sporty exhaust note.

The newly calibrated engine electronics complete with high-performance mapping for injection and ignition coordinate the perfect interaction of the high-end components while also ensuring compliance with Euro V emission standards. The high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner Motul.

The Brabus T65 RS engine produces 588 kW / 800 hp (788 bhp) of power at 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), available from a low 2,100 rpm. In the car, peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

In conjunction with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, whose gears can be shifted automatically or manually with the Brabus aluminum shift paddles on the steering wheel, the Brabus 800 Roadster rises to the become the most powerful of its kind. From rest the sports car weighing in at about two metric tons (2.2 tons) sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds. The two-door car reaches a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) after just 9.8 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 350 km/h (217 mph).

To master these enormous speeds at all times, a Brabus aerodynamic-enhancement kit for the SL 65 was developed in the wind tunnel. All components are manufactured from carbon fibers and are available either with a matt or high-gloss surface finish. It goes without saying; they can also be painted in the car's exterior color.

The Brabus front spoiler attaches to the lower section of the bumper. It lends the roadster a more sporty appearance and reduces lift on the front axle. Brabus covers for the side air vents round out the striking front for the SL65 AMG.

The sides are refined with custom-tailored attachments for the air vents integrated into the front fenders and with rocker panels.

To achieve an optimal aerodynamic balance, the rear section is upgraded with a diffuser insert for the fascia.

As an alternative to the 19-inch stock tires of the SL 65, the Brabus suspension engineers have developed an exclusive 20-inch high-tech variant. The new Brabus Monoblock R "Platinum Edition" forged wheel offers the perfect symbiosis of lightweight construction and maximum strength thanks to state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. In addition to the innovative construction, this wheel design also offers unique looks with ten double spokes arranged in two matt titanium and fully polished planes. The front axle is fitted with wheels in size 9Jx20 shod with size 255/30 ZR 20 tires. In the rear, tires in size 305/25 ZR 20 mounted on size 10.5Jx20 wheels transfer the Brabus 800 Roadster's power of 800 horses to the asphalt. Brabus recommends high-performance tires from Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA.

To give the two-seater even more agile handling, Brabus developed a special control module for the ABC suspension of the SL65 AMG. It lowers the ride height by about 25 millimeters (1.0 inches).

The Brabus limited-slip rear differential with a locking rate of 40 percent can enhance handling performance further still.

Brabus adds even more luxury and custom features to the two-seat interior upon request as well. The product portfolio ranges from scuff plates with backlit Brabus logo and a speedometer with 360-km/h dial (220 mph) to carbon-fiber and wood trim sets in any color imaginable and with a variety of surface finishes.

The company upholstery shop crafts exquisite Brabus interiors from especially soft yet durable Brabus Mastik leather and Alcantara. A prime example for the precision craftsmanship is the leather-clad trunk of the show car at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show that features meticulous and precise honeycomb stitching throughout.

No doubt, one of the highlights at ABT's stand will be the firm's tune for the new seventh generation VW Golf hatchback, previewed here in a rendering, in which we get a taste of the cosmetic applications that include an assortment of aero parts, headlamp and mirror trims, and a new alloy wheel design from the ER-X line.

We also expect ABT to offer a selection of performance upgrades for the MQB platform-based Golf, with full details to be released in Geneva.

The other three cars are from Audi and include the RS5-R Coupe with a two-tone paint job and a top speed in excess of 300km/h (186mph +), the 612hp (620PS) Audi R8 GTR designed as weekend track racer, and the AS6-R Avant with 592-horses (600PS) nestled under its hood.

For the time being, AC Schnitzer is letting us play the guessing game about what it has prepared for these two models through the release of the respective image galleries, with detailed information to be announced during the Swiss show.

From the pictures, we see that the 6-Series Gran Coupe with the M Sport package gains a new carbon fiber lip spoiler, a chrome-plated lower grille and headlamp accents up front, and a new rear diffuser made from carbon fiber with different exhaust outlets at the back. AC Schnitzer's two-tone alloy wheels complete the look.

Similarly, the 3-Series estate with the M Sport Package is updated with a chrome lower front grille, a two-piece front spoiler, a painted rear diffuser, new tailpipes and five-spoke wheels.

Interior options for both models include an AC Schnitzer knob for the i-Drive system, bespoke mats and aluminum pedals.

Up until now, the pure electric vehicle hatch has been built solely in Japan, but Nissan is rolling out locally built versions of the Leaf for Europe and North America. In Europe, series production will begin at the company's UK plant in Sunderland alongside the Qashqai, Note and Juke. The Leaf's lithium-ion batteries are already being manufactured at a new facility nearby on the Sunderland site.

"By sourcing Nissan LEAF and its batteries in Europe, we are underlining our faith not just in the ability of the Sunderland facility to build our most technically advanced car, but also in the fact that electric vehicles can be considered a genuine alternative to conventionally powered vehicles," said Paul Willcox, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan Europe.

Like its Japanese and American counterparts, the European-built 2013 Leaf comes with more than 100 changes, including some subtle design updates to improve aerodynamics, a faster charging option, a wider range of regenerative braking and enhanced energy management, while Nissan has also dropped pricing by €3,000 (roughly $4,000).

In Geneva, Nissan will also display the 370Z Nismo, 2013MY GT-R, Juke Nismo and the Resonance concept, next to the new Leaf and Note.

Now, Maserati is getting ready to premiere a new sub-version of the GranTurismo MC Stradale that keeps the regular model's four-seat configuration at next week's Geneva Motor Show.

Other than that (which of course, should bring an weight, though, Maserati hasn't released an official figure yet), the 4-seater GranTurismo MC Stradale is identical to its 2013MY 2-seater sibling wearing the same exterior outfit highlighted by a carbon fibre bonnet that frames a central air intake, a rear diffuser and 20-inch forged alloy rims.

The same applies under the hood with the 4-seater model featuring a 4.7-liter naturally-aspirated V8 pushing out 460PS (454hp) linked to an MC Race Shift 6-speed robotized manual gearbox, which allow for a top speed of 302km/h (188mph) that is identical to the 2-seater MC Stradale.

The new model sees the compact Sports Activity Coupé concept re-emerge in an extra layer of muscular proportions and dynamically stretched lines. Long doors, the coupé-style roof swooping downwards from the windscreen and side windows tapering towards the rear shape the side view of the car. The upright front end exudes power and presence, while the broad-set rear - with its large tailgate - offers a hint of the car's surefooted roadholding. Lounge Leather sports seats in Carbon Black Championship Red are available as an option. Standard Piano Black interior trim strips add the finishing touches to the racing-inspired aura inside the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works. Exclusive Chili Red trim - consisting of red elements for the cockpit and doors and a red stripe for the otherwise black trim strips on the centre console - can be ordered as an option.

The MINI Paceman John Cooper Works will be built alongside all the other variants of the brand's first Sports Activity Coupé and the MINI Countryman at the BMW Group's partner firm Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik in Graz, Austria. Production will take place on a separate assembly line set up and operated according to the exacting standards of the BMW Group. As with all the brand's models, the high-performance powerplant for this sharpest of all MINI Paceman models will be sourced from the Hams Hall engine plant, one corner of the MINI production triangle in England.

Racing expertise fuels peak performance - Engine and gearbox

Instantaneous power delivery and an unquenchable appetite for revs define the 1,598 cc four-cylinder engine powering the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works. The latest generation of the turbocharged John Cooper Works engine brings together technical details honed in race competition and cuttingedge innovations developed by the BMW Group's powertrain experts. Highlights include reinforced pistons, a weight-optimised crankshaft, an aluminium cylinder block and bearing mount, and further optimisation of the air supply and exhaust gas discharge system. Plus, the turbocharger is twinned with a generously sized intercooler. The four valves of each cylinder are operated by two overhead camshafts, low-friction rocker arms and hydraulic valve clearance compensation elements. The exhaust valves are sodium-filled to help provide the extra cooling required by a turbocharged engine.

The twin-scroll turbocharger joins forces with petrol direct injection and variable valve control based on the BMW Group's VALVETRONIC technology. This throttle-free load control system significantly improves both the engine's responsiveness and its efficiency.

Outstanding power and even greater torque thanks to the overboost function; six-speed automatic gearbox available as an option

The MINI Paceman John Cooper Works's powerplant develops its maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp at 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 280 Newton metres (207 lb-ft) is on tap between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm, and can be increased to 300 Newton metres (221 lb-ft) for short periods between 2,100 and 4,500 rpm using the overboost function. This opens the door to gratifyingly vivacious acceleration to which the standard-fitted sports exhaust system provides a suitably striking soundtrack.

The front-mounted transverse engine of the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works teams up as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. A six-speed automatic is available as an option. Both variants have been revised and retuned to take into account the extra torque developed by the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works's engine, enabling outstanding performance combined with even greater efficiency. The automatic comes with the Steptronic function, which allows the driver to change gear manually using either the selector lever on the centre console or the shift paddles on the steering wheel.

The likewise standard Sport Button on the centre console can be used to tweak the engine's responses and soundtrack, as well as the power assistance provided by the steering. If the automatic gearbox is specified, pressing the Sport Button also quickens up shift times.

Among the other components helping to give the Paceman John Cooper Works its efficiency edge are Electric Power Steering, whose electric motor only uses energy when power assistance is actually required, a mapcontrolled oil pump, an on-demand coolant pump, lightweight construction elements and optimised aerodynamic properties. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 7.4 litres (automatic: 7.9 litres) per 100 kilometres / 38.2 (35.8) mpg imp, and CO2 emissions come in at 172 (184) grams per kilometre.

ALL4 all-wheel-drive system maximises assurance and sporting ability

The ALL4 all-wheel-drive system teams up with the thrillingly potent engine under the bonnet of the MINI Paceman John Cooper Works to deliver a razorsharp interpretation of the brand's trademark go-kart feeling. The ALL4 allwheel- drive system developed for MINI uses an electromagnetic centre differential to distribute drive seamlessly between the front and rear axles. This means power is always sent to the wheels where it can be translated most effectively into forward propulsion. The system therefore not only provides a noticeable increase in traction and driving stability on loose ground and in adverse weather conditions, it also enhances agility in quickly taken corners.

In normal driving situations ALL4 diverts a maximum 50 per cent of the engine's power to the rear wheels, rising all the way to 100 per cent in extreme conditions. The front brake discs are 307 millimetres in diameter and 24 millimetres thick, the rears 296 x 10 millimetres. The standard sports suspension includes particularly firmly tuned springs and dampers, strengthened anti-roll bars and a 10-millimetre drop in ride height.

18-inch light-alloy wheels in Twin Spoke Black Burnished design with polished spoke fronts and black rim wells are also part of standard specification, while tyres come in 225/45 R18 format. The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can immediately be recognized by the unique profile of its upper area, which extends along newly designed geometric lines from the removable roof to the engine hood.

The Roadster's design is the result of a careful study into the best way of combining performance, elegant style, ease of use and a driving experience that excites all five senses.

The two-piece roof is made entirely from carbon fiber using various technologies such as RTM and Forged Composite®. These technologies guarantee maximum aesthetic performance and stiffness although each component is extremely light, weighing less than 6 kg. These two parts are removable, easy to handle, and being lightweight and simple to attach, can be stored in the front luggage compartment. The rear pillar has been redesigned to offer total support for the removable roof, accommodate an automatic protection system for passengers, and provide the engine compartment with ample ventilation.

Right at first glance, it's noticeable that the engine hood on the Roadster differs from the hood on the coupé because of its central "spinal column" with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides as if they were hyper-tech armor plates.
