2014 Kia Forte

Pulling the silk off the all-new 2014 Kia Forte sedan at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show, Kia Motors America (KMA) revealed a stunning European design-inspired sedan that makes it clear the Korean auto manufacturer has another winner in its line-up of sought-after cars and CUVs. Sitting on an all-new chassis that is longer, wider and lower than the previous-generation Forte, the all-new third-generation Kia Forte will offer more room, more performance and more premium amenities when it's expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2013. The all-new 2014 Forte will be offered in LX and EX variants with a choice of an efficient 1.8-liter engine or a more powerful 2.0-liter engine.

"The all-new Forte significantly raises the bar, offering upscale amenities and eye-catching appeal," said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing & communications, KMA. "When you combine exclusive available features like a ventilated driver's seat and UVO eServices in a car with such an attractive design, it's very clear the all-new Forte sets a new standard for the compact segment."

2014 Kia Forte
2014 Kia Forte

Set to arrive at Kia retailers in early 2013, the all-new Forte will represent the heart of KMA's small-car line-up, replacing the current Forte, which has been a sales success story since launching in 2009. Slotted between the Rio sub-compact sedan and the best-selling Optima mid-size sedan, the all-new Kia Forte includes a raft of unexpected available premium features in a package that easily accommodates five passengers and their belongings.

Sport Sedan Design From California
With an aggressive stance, broad shoulders and a windshield rake that can only be described as sporty, the all-new Forte looks as good parked as it does carving through a remote canyon road. Influenced by European sport sedan styling, the Kia Forte's modern aesthetic was born in California at Kia's American Design Center in Irvine.

Dramatically swept headlight lenses cut deeply into the front fenders and incorporate projector headlamps. LED positioning lights create distinct eyebrows, making the Forte instantly recognizable in a crowd. Gentle sculpting along the Kia Forte's lower flanks taper the sheet metal inward, affording the car a taut, nimble appearance without diminishing its road presence. Around back, the up-kicked fender line and trunk design, with its deep horizontal crease, lend width and charisma while allowing the complex curves of the tail lights to flow over the rear haunches.

2013 Kia Sorento EU-Version

Less than three years into its life-span the Kia Sorento, has been comprehensively revised. The new Sorento is available to order from Kia dealerships in the UK from the beginning of October 2012 with customers able to pick up their models from December 2012.

2013 Kia Sorento EU-Version
2013 Kia Sorento EU-Version

Far more than just the usual mid-term upgrade, this is a front-to-rear and top-to-bottom re-engineering of the car which improves safety, comfort, luxury and driving dynamics while lowering fuel consumption, emissions and running costs. In a simplified range, all models now have permanent all-wheel drive system and are powered by a revised version of Kia's 2.2-litre CRDi turbodiesel engine.

There is an all-new platform and a more rigid bodyshell with additional front, side and rear structures to disperse impact energy. Torsional stiffness has been increased by 18 per cent compared with the previous model, thanks to the use of 25 per cent ultra-high-strength steels in the body construction. This should ensure New Kia Sorento maintains the five-star Euro-NCAP safety rating awarded to the previous model, despite increasingly tougher test conditions.

The length and width of the car are unchanged at 4,685 mm and 1,885 mm respectively, but New Sorento is 10 mm lower than the outgoing model at 1,700 mm as a result of a corresponding reduction in ride height. This has the benefit of lowering the centre of gravity, an ideal starting point for the much-improved on-road agility and responsiveness of New Sorento as well as improved access and easier loading ability as well.

2013 Kia Ceed

Making its global premiere at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show is the all-new Kia cee'd. More sophisticated, more efficient, more refined and with a more engaging driving experience than its predecessor, new cee'd is expected to build on the success of the original model, further establishing Kia as one of the leading automotive brands in Europe.

2013 Kia Ceed
2013 Kia Ceed

Launched in 2007, the original cee'd was a landmark and game-changing model for Kia. Designed, developed and built in Europe, cee'd was the first model to establish Kia as a serious contender to the established brands. Winning praise from media and public alike for its all-round ownership proposition, cee'd claimed fourth place in the European Car of the Year Awards that year - the highest ever ranking for a Kia vehicle.

2013 Kia Ceed
2013 Kia Ceed

"The original cee'd was a paradigm shift for Kia, taking the company into the hotly contested C-segment with a truly competitive car for the first time," comments Paul Philpott, Chief Operating Officer, Kia Motors Europe. "Just as the original cee'd represented a major step forward for Kia in 2007, this second-generation model represents a further leap for the brand - both in terms of the capability and sophistication of the vehicle, and what it will do to drive further momentum in our European sales.

2013 Kia Ceed
2013 Kia Ceed

"Since launch, the cee'd family has recorded over 430,000 sales in Western Europe, changing the public perception of our brand and laying the foundations for a series of new Kia models across a broad spread of market sectors.

2013 Kia Ceed
2013 Kia Ceed

"The remarkable success of our newest models, Picanto, Rio, Soul, Venga, Sportage and Sorento, owes much to the impact made by the original cee'd and the innovative seven year Kia warranty we introduced with that model," Philpott concludes.

New cee'd five-door goes on sale across Europe from the second quarter of 2012, depending on market, and will play a significant role in driving Kia's sales in Europe even higher. Further information about other models in the new cee'd family - including the SW version displayed at Geneva - will be made available later this year.

2013 Kia Carens

The all-new Kia Carens is a completely fresh model from the ground up, and its sleek and sculpted design marks a dramatic shift away from the more utilitarian look of its predecessor.

2013 Kia Carens
2013 Kia Carens

It builds on the functionality and versatility of the original Kia Carens, with a spacious five or five-plus-two seating layout, a generously proportioned luggage bay and numerous stowage spaces, but wraps this family-friendly adaptability in more purposeful sheet metal.

2013 Kia Carens
2013 Kia Carens

"I wanted to give the new Carens a sleeker look and feel, to create a design that envelops its functionality and versatility in something altogether more athletic and dynamic," says Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer.

2013 Kia Carens
2013 Kia Carens

"This new-found visual dynamism is important - this car needs to look appealing and attractive - but during its design and development stages, we never lost sight of the fact that its packaging flexibility and adaptability are why people buy these cars," explains Schreyer.

2013 Kia Carens
2013 Kia Carens

Both Schreyer and Gregory Guillaume, Kia's Chief Designer Europe, are candid when discussing the design of the Kia Carens. "A vehicle like the Carens is probably one of the hardest of all to get right because we are very tightly constrained by the car's functionality," says Guillaume. "That packaging versatility cannot in any way be compromised by the design of the car because to do so would eradicate the car's raison d'ĂȘtre."

Schreyer and Guillaume's team created subtle styling cues to enhance the Kia Carens' elegant and balanced proportions and deliver an air of sophistication and refinement.

As an example Schreyer singles out the understated chrome strip that runs from the base of the windscreen, along the lower level of windows and curls up to meet the C-pillar. "This not only adds a premium feel to the clean-cut exterior, but also creates a visual link with the new Sportage, which features the same design motif," he explains.

One of Schreyer's design goals was improved visibility - a key element for safe driving, particularly in congested urban areas. "The base of the windscreen is very low and this works with the front quarter windows and the low and wide sweeping dashboard design to deliver excellent visibility," explains Schreyer. The panoramic glass roof that floods the cabin with light further enhances this sense of spaciousness.

Similarly, the Kia Carens design team worked hard on ensuring the front and rear overhangs were kept as short as possible to boost manoeuvrability when parking and negotiating city traffic.

Neat touches abound - the integrated roof rails, the sleek rear spoiler, the three-way split second-row seats that feature individual fore and aft adjustment, and Kia's tactile new steering wheel.

"With its nigh-perfect balance of proportion, style and functionality, the distinctive new Carens marks yet another successful and stylish step for Kia's global design team," says Schreyer proudly. "There's a design honesty here - the Kia Carens is neither over-dressed nor does it feature contrived design elements. It's a car cleanly and elegantly defined by its functionality."

Latest 2014 Corvette C7 Video Reveals New Digital Gauge

The painstakingly slow teasing of the Corvette C7 continues with one more artsy trailer, this one talking about the calibration of the car, but without really saying anything…

2014 Corvette C7

However, what this video does give us is our first glimpse at the next Corvette's digital gauge that occupies the center and the right side of the instrument panel incorporating the revolution-counter that goes up to 7,000 rpm and a central status screen depicting the outline of the car.

This new clip comes only a day after GM announced that fans can now download for free and drive a camouflaged prototype version of the 2014 Corvette on the PS3's Gran Turismo 5 racing game.

The actual Corvette C7 will be officially revealed on January 13, 2013, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR Racer Hints at Production SS and Possibly Even Next Commodore

As promised, Chevrolet lifted the wraps off its 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS racecar today during a special event in Las Vegas. Even if you're not a fan of NASCAR racing, you'll be interested to know that the competition SS incorporates design cues from the upcoming production 2014 Chevrolet SS.

2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR

We'll remind you that all NASCAR racers feature a generic body with some minor modifications that include the funny looking decals that resemble the head- and tail-lights. To understand the relationship between a production model and its NASCAR sibling, check out Ford's Fusion racer in our previous post here.

2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR

"As a passionate race fan, the debut of the SS NASCAR race car is a genuinely exciting moment for me,” said GM North America President Mark Reuss during the presentation of the car in Las Vegas.

2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR

"With the SS, Chevrolet is delivering a true rear-wheel-drive NASCAR race car that is very closely linked to the performance sedan that will be available for sale, ensuring that our most loyal enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience the same thrill every day on the open road that our race car drivers enjoy on the track on race day," he added.

2013 Chevrolet SS NASCAR

The production version of the SS will be a rear-wheel drive mid-size sports sedan derived from the yet to be launched Holden VF Commodore and equipped with a V8 engine. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if the two models are the same in every aspect except the badges.

Chevrolet said that its first rear-wheel drive sedan in the United States since 1996 will arrive as a limited production model in dealerships late next year.

Audi Introduces New 240HP 3.0-liter V6 Diesel for A6, A7, A8 and Q5 SUV in the U.S.

While extremely popular in Europe, for a long time, diesel-powered passenger cars were a non-entity in the U.S. automotive business. Furthermore, it was more likely to see pink flamingos parading in Times Square than a premium brand automobile with a diesel engine under its hood.

Audi

Today, things are quite different. Diesel engines are nothing like they used to be, nor are gasoline prices, so manufacturers are not afraid to add diesel variants to their U.S. line-up.

Audi

Audi, for one, introduced no less than four new models fitted with its new 3.0-liter “clean” V6 diesel at the LA Auto Show. The TDI unit is already available in the updated Q7 full-size SUV since September and will go on sale in the 2014MY A8 flagship saloon from next spring and in the A6, A7 and Q5 in fall 2013.

Audi

The engine has an output of 240HP and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque and, according to the German carmaker, enables each of its models to improve fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions by 30 percent compared to gasoline engine-powered versions.

Audi

Audi

Audi

"Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009", said the president of Audi North America Scott Keogh. "TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance”, he added.
